Having known Professor Laserina O’Connor in a professional capacity, I am truly humbled to receive this medal established in her honour.  Professor Laserina O’Connor was a remarkable person who inspired all who met her with her passion for pain management. The patient was always her central focus.

The Professor Laserina O’Connor medal for best nursing poster is not just an award. It recognises nursing as a discipline capable of generating research that can bring meaningful change to practice. It provides an opportunity to highlight important areas of patient care – in this case, the management of acute pain (non-cancer pain) in medical inpatients sixty-five years and older. The development of the algorithms aims to provide a clinical decision-making framework to clinicians in the management of pain in this cohort of patients, with resultant better outcomes and improved patient satisfaction.

Professor Laserina O’Connor was a champion of pain management education, and I believe she would be proud to see her legacy carried forward through this work.”
