Congratulations to Colleen Cunningham on receipt of the IPS SAGE with IASP Nursing Education Bursary.
The IPS is pleased to announce the winner of the IPS SAGE with IASP Nurse Education Award is Colleen Cunningham, Beacon Hospital.
The IPS SAGE with IASP Nurse Education Award is kindly supported by Dr. Shelagh Wright, former IPS council member and author of the SAGE with IASP book “Pain Management in Nursing Practice. This award is judged on a submitted abstract outlining how attendance at the IASP 2024 World Congress on Pain would be relevant for their nursing research and practice, as well as personal professional development and how it may help advance the scope of pain- management in nursing practice within the healthcare setting. We congratulate Colleen on her award and hope she enjoys the IASP 2024 World Congress on Pain.
A bit about Colleen;
Colleen trained as an RN in Waterford, qualifying in 2012, and moved to the UK to begin her career in nursing.
After 18months, the travel bug had set in, and she found myself Sydney bound where she spent 6 amazing years in Oz, full of travelling and working in various fields of nursing, before realising her love of anaesthetic nursing. Colleen returned home in 2020 with more experience and knowledge than she could have hoped for, and then began working in the Beacon Hospital, continuing on in anaesthetic nursing, and with their help and support, completed the Advanced Practice MSc in Pain Management (UCD).
Following this, Colleen completed the Professional Certificate in Nurse Prescribing in RCSI, which enabled her to register as an ANP. Colleen currently works within a 2 team ANP led Pain Service in the Beacon Hospital, and self proclaims to genuinely loves her job.
Colleen is looking forward to a long career within Pain Nursing and we wish her all the very best with her career.
